Electromagnetism I

This course is supposed to enhance physical understanding of the students about electrostatics and magnetstatics as well as providing them with new, and rather strong, tools to deal with problems in electr- and magneto-statics. Here is short a list of the concepts being lectured:

  • Vector analysis (preliminary)
  • Coulomb's law
  • Gauss's law
  • Techniques in electrostatics: Laplace equations
  • Techniques in electrostatics: Method of images
  • Electrostatics in the presence of medium (dielectrics)
  • Electrostatic energy
  • Electric current
  • Biot-Savart law
  • Ampere's law
  • Magnetism
  • Magnetism: a microscopic study

Prerequisites:
  • General Physics II
  • Mathematical Physics I
  • Mathematical Physics II
Grading Policy:

Homework :  20% +
Mid Exam :  25% || 55% +
Fin Exam :  25% || 55%

If you have enrolled in the course join us in DropBox! There you will find the problem sets and their solutions as well as other interesting stuff!

Mid-Exam: 1397-2-1
The mid-term exam will cover the whole electrostaics theory. That is, Coulomb's law to electrostatic energy. These concepts will not be covered in the final exam. Nevertheless, there will be a bonous question.
